Dekton: Won’t Freeze, Won’t Burn, And You Can Cook or Walk On It

Dekton makes a great outdoor kitchen — or floor.

Dekton makes a great outdoor kitchen — or floor.

IF YOU COULD HAVE a countertop that wouldn’t stain, scratch or scorch, that looked amazing year after year and that cost about the same as a higher-end quartz, would you be interested? What if you could use it outdoors without worrying about sun, rain or ice damage, would you want it? World-class innovator Cosentino is betting that you would, which is why they spent six years developing just such a surface. They call it Dekton.

What Is It?

Dekton is a blend of raw materials found in glass, porcelain and quartz stone that are subjected to intense pressure and heat and resulting in an extremely durable product. Dramatic designs and contemporary colors and finishes are as much a hallmark of Dekton as its high-tech properties and a principal reason for its popularity.

Compared to Quartz and Granite

Like quartz, Dekton is non-porous which means there are no nooks and crannies where bacteria and viruses can hide, but unlike quartz Dekton contains no resins. That means you can place a blazing-hot pan directly on a Dekton countertop without fear of damaging it.

Each slab of granite is unique, but an engineered product like Dekton is consistent in pattern and color. Granite requires periodic sealing; Dekton never needs to be sealed and is more stain-resistant and thus easier to keep clean than granite.

What You Need to Know

As an ultra-compact, Dekton has very little give and has been known to chip at the edge or crack if struck with a heavy object. To find out more about this and the Dekton warranty, see the FAQ section of our About Dekton page.

Unmatched Versatility

Dekton is available in large-format slabs and a variety of thicknesses ranging from 4mm to 30mm, allowing for creative combinations and seamless tops. So versatile is this material that it is used for flooring, sinks, showers, indoor wall tiles and outdoor facades.
